Hanukkah 25 December 2024 – 1 January 2025
Hanukkah, also known as the Festival of Lights, is an eight-day Jewish holiday celebrated by millions around the world, including Australia. It usually falls in late November or December.
The central story of Hanukkah revolves around the miracle of a small amount of oil, enough to light the temple’s menorah (a seven-branched candelabrum), burning for eight days instead of one. To mark this miracle, families celebrate by lighting a menorah, adding a new candle each night, and engaging in special prayers and songs.
